Malevolent Book 1 in the Cases of Lieutenant Kane Series of Police Procedural Novels
Tampa homicide lieutenant Carl Kane has a tough job. His day-to-day consists of decomposing dead bodies and removing murderers from the general public. But when two women’s bodies are found under similar circumstances, it quickly turns into more than your average case. The killer is clearly looking to make a name for himself, and his plans for these women go far beyond death.
When the media runs with the story, the killer’s moment in the spotlight arrives.
It’s up to Lieutenant Kane to bring the man the press has dubbed the Psycho Surgeon to justice. However, being the lead on the case has its drawbacks—like becoming the focus of the killer yourself.
As Lieutenant Kane closes in on his suspect, he soon realizes the case has become far more personal than he could have ever imagined.

Great story! Sometimes this genre can be far-flung and at times unrealistic. Not so here, the story was twisted, but not so far that it seemed out of the realm of possibilities, which in my opinion is what constitutes a good thriller. A realistic plot, combined with characters that are well developed throughout the book, equals a good read. If you enjoy thrillers and/or police procedurals you will enjoy this book. I have already moved on to the second in the series.Product details

Malevolent Cases of Lieutenant Kane Series Book 1 edition by EH Reinhard Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
It is inconceivable anyone could be as stupid as the hero in this book and still be alive. Don't waste your time. Crude, sadistic and disturbing.
I would give this 0 if possible. I read a few chapters and felt as if my mind had been dragged through filth. Don't get me wrong; I don't mind some blood and Gore. This was excessive and evil.
Evil and gory, then the detective goes brain dead (pun intended) when the bad guy gives him an OBVIOUS clue. It's near to "torture porn", I do not recommend this book.
I felt that this book was pretty good. It didn't grab me from the very beginning but as I continued to read, I was pulled into the story at certain points trying to find out if the main character would catch the killer. Overall, the character development wasn't that deep. I did feel for the main character toward the end when they pulled in his feelings re an old love. However, I wasn't up and down with his failures or successes. It was a more factual book than playing on the reader's emotions. I was more thinking 'Just get him. What game is the killer playing now? In what way is he trying to trick you here?'
One thing that is very different about this author's writing compared to most thrillers that I read is that he describes in detail what the killer is doing to his victims. At one point, it was very graphic and I'm not generally too queasy about these things but it was even a little much for me to be able to handle. Now, this was just one part - not the entire book, not even every time the author writes from the killer's perspective.
While I don't think I'll go out of my way to read this author again or even read other books in this series, I wouldn't avoid his books and would be okay reading him again.
It was an interesting story told from both perspectives cop and criminal. I also was pleased with writing style, narrative was intelligent yet written as a detective and psycho would speak. Worth the read.
I don't remember the last time I read a book and held my breath so much. This book kept me on the edge of my chair..come to think of it it may be the reason I didn't sleep the last couple of nights.
I enjoyed this book and am recommending it to others.
While there are some decent though fairly standard serial killer things going on here, there's a whole lot that should have met the delete key. We spend at least a page of narrative on dealing with the food machine and the crummy sandwiches it dispenses. Paragraphs on the coffee machine. More paragraphs on getting up, getting dressed, etc. None of which impacted the story in any way. One other thing--the protagonist is on the dumb side. He's supposed to be a top detective, yet there were at least two instances where he should have come to the same conclusion about threats to himself and people close to him as this reader did, but he ignored them. That led, of course, to dire consequences that served the purposes of the "plot" but destroyed any credibility the character had as a detective.
Great story! Sometimes this genre can be far-flung and at times unrealistic. Not so here, the story was twisted, but not so far that it seemed out of the realm of possibilities, which in my opinion is what constitutes a good thriller.
