Broken Beginnings is a heart-shattering novel where damages to the heart must be overcome before love can hold a chance at surviving.

In the dead of the night, Chloe packs her bags and runs for a better life, heading west of Toronto in search of something better. When her car breaks down in a small mountain town, she is forced to trust Galen to help. A journeyman mechanic with a heart-stopping grin and deep blue eyes she could drown in offers her a safe place to stay while she tries to find herself. As she gets to know Galen, it becomes clear to her that his life is everything straight out of a fairytale. He has the perfect family, the perfect job and the perfect life. He is happy and his heart has never been damaged by the choices of others the way Chloe's has. Galen has not lost and loss is all Chloe knows. For Chloe, trust is rare. But for Galen, trust is natural. Never having seen a beaten heart like Chloe's, Galen is determined to break through the walls she holds in place to protect herself and prove that the world is not filled with pain, but that the happiness she dreams of is attainable.

Broken Beginnings eBook Alannah Carbonneau

The book started out interesting enough; with a plausible plot and intriguing characters, but it slid into a dragging, repetitious bore shortly there after.

The female lead character acted more like a young adolescent than a twenty-two-year-old woman. Galen, the lead male, was a paragon of a selfless, outrageously patient man.
He was the owner of a lovely, large house that stood on several acres of land. He was also handsome and a loving son and brother - a man that was too perfect to be believable.

It was disappointing to trudge thorough repetitive inner dialogue for the rest of the book.

Broken Beginnings eBook Alannah Carbonneau Reviews

This is the idealistic romance book. Totally unrealistic, but still a way to pass the time. Kind of boring, actually, and it ends on a cliffhanger! I hate when no one warns you about that so heed my advice! It is a very poor cliffhanger and not very compelling, but it still leaves loads of unfinished business between the main couple.
I loved this story.

I knew going into this book that it's not a stand alone so I wasn't expecting that the story would be concluded within this novel......and Wowzers I can't wait for the next instalment.

This story is a heart warming one of survival and strength, emotions and courage.

This is the story of Chloe and her search for a home .....a real home.
When you dont have the comfort of feeling safe, a place called home becomes a craving and when you've gone so long without finding that home to retreat too, then it almost becomes an enigma. This is how Chloe feels and almost believes she wont ever feel safe again or even find that special place.
A place she can feel safe and let down her guards. A place she feels safe enough to be able to even contemplate letting down the barriers. A place she never thought she'd find........until fate steps in and forces her to meet Galen.
Just when she thinks she's found that oasis in the dessert, the place and person she's yearned for, she starts to allow the walls she has built around her begin to be took down one by one courtesy of Galen, the hand of fate is once again cast her way.

I really enjoyed this story and I'm exicited to see where the next book leads this couple thrown together by chance.........can love conquer all ? )
Until the abrupt ending, which is either a cliffhanger or just a poor ending I would have given this book an easy four stars. However, it just ended with no warning. It would have been really easy for the author to give it a HEA in a page or less. The story was nearly complete. Instead, the book ended with them stopping short of have smex and where neither experienced fulfillment (there were several starts but no completions which I hate when authors do that) something bad happening that impacted the heroine and the hero telling her that he loved her which everyone already knew. I feel blindside as there is no reference made anywhere in the book or even on the book's summary & description of there being a second book and a cliffhanger ending and so I do not know if there will be another book. Because it had a poor ending, I am hoping so but it is not looking likely as the author published this story in January of 2014 and has since that time published a lot more book including the whole series of the Donnelley brothers. I am very frustrated at this point and disappointed. I read and enjoyed most of the books in her Donneley series, which all have a HEA endings and did not see this coming.

The good stuff. I loved Galen, the hero in this book. For me, is on my list as one of the most romantic, down to earth and likable heroes. Like with the Donnelley men from the author's series, Galen falls quickly and hard for Chloe, the heroine, and goes after he full force. Once she comes into his life he is not letting her go as he knows that she completes him and within 24 hours of meeting her due to his persistence and bad luck on her part, she is living with him. It takes him very little time to break down barriers that she has erected due to past.

I love jealous, possessive alpha heroes. And while Galen was certainly possessive towards Chloe and had his jealous moments (which loved), he is not an alpha if the dictionary definition is used which is "the highest ranked or most dominant individual of one's sex". Rather, Galen is an everyday guy, happy and content with his life despite the fact that he is making only a modest living as a mechanic. It was refreshing not to have a hero who was wealthy and fixated on gaining more power. Make no mistake about it, though, Galen was masculine both in appearance and actions. It was also to nice to read about a hero who was not damaged and did not have a dark past. He was loved growing up and still has loving parents who are part of his and his sister's lives. They are a close family and still have Sunday dinners together.

While it takes him until the end of the book to use the "l" word (but a short time in that he had only known her less than 1 month), it was obvious that he fell in love with her shortly after meeting her. He was not afraid to express his emotions, which was also refreshing. The thing that he does for her, shows how much he loves her. It is true that the story is slow moving but that was ok with me as it showed Chloe coming out of her shell and falling for him too.

There were a few grammar mistakes and words that were misused but it did not detract from my enjoyment of the story, just something that I noticed. The few sexy times there were in the book were good. The heroine is a virgin and so the author could have ended the story with the heroine giving that gift to the hero and declaring her love in return. That did not happen and that opportunity was lost, which sadden me.
Great read. Good series. Characters were well developed. I would recommend this book for others to read. Also read her other books.
