From best-selling author Brett Battles comes the first book in a spinoff series from his award-winning Jonathan Quinn thrillers.
Ananke thought her week couldn't get worse, but as she hunts for the man who screwed up her previous job, things really go sideways.
Turns out, she's not the only one having problems.
Rosario can acquire anything for anyone, but can she obtain freedom for herself when her latest assignment goes awry?
Dylan's sure his new gig will be a walk in the park - or rather, a drive, given that he's a courier. Unfortunately, the road is a bit bumpier than he expected.
Liesel is having the worst week of her life, and blames only herself.
And Ricky? Well, Ricky doesn't believe in bad weeks. Though he can't claim being stuck in prison is all that great. Convenient for all of them, then, that a mysterious organization comes along asking for their help, and in return promises to reverse their excommunication from the secret world.
Of course, nothing good ever comes without strings attached.
The Excoms (Audible Audio Edition) Brett Battles Allyson Johnson Audible Studios Books
Truthfully, the primary reason I bought this book was due to Mr. Battles reputation that's associated with his "Cleaner" series (at least for me). Each and every one of the Quinn books was strong on its own - the same can't be said for this initial foray with the Excoms. I can't quite put my finger on it, but the time spent on this was almost as if I was waiting for something. I cannot articulate what that might be, I just know it was missing. I'm especially interested in bonding with the Committee's purpose. Now, having said that, this was still a good book, one I can recommend. It's just that with Quinn I knew I been somewhere and accomplished something. This episode with these characters got me 90% there. I will buy another in the hope that Mr. Battles develops these folks a little more and I can turn the last page with satisfaction.

The Excoms (Audible Audio Edition) Brett Battles Allyson Johnson Audible Studios Books Reviews
Excellent as a launch pad for the new Excom series, which makes it a not-as-great stand alone book, thus 4 stars.
I, as others, was initally lost with the number of underdefined characters -- the committee vs the "anti-committee" -- being introduced along with the much more defined "field"characters. By the end, you have a better idea of who's who, but there are questions left unanswered, as expected with the start of a series.
As with all good books, you are guessing who the bad guys are as you read. That doesn't totally get resolved at the end, so that is obviously part of the allure of book 2.
The story itself is well constructed with a twist or two so you are kept entertained throughout. Quick moving. Looking forward to book 2.
I became a fan of Brett Battles with the Project Eden series. I went on to enjoy the Quinn novels and the Rewinder series. I purchased this book simply because he wrote it, but I didn't think I would like it. I was wrong! I'm looking forward to following the Ex Com's through many future missions.
Thank you Mr Battles for writing adventure books that I can't put down and are clean enough to recommend to others.
A private "Committee" devoted to noble ends recruits a "We're No Angles" team to achieve them by rescuing field operators from their perilous predicaments.
I particularly liked the way the author introduced the several team members. Each has an substantive, action-packed story of his or her own in the beginning, so that the reader knows them well when they all get together. No tedious memorization of character names and situations is necessary.
The team's mission is to rescue kidnapped children; but one of the operators proves to be a loose canon, and the Committee has a leak.
Overall, the gals sure have it over the guys in their field teams. They're not "Wonder Women" but boy can they perform the hard stuff, and to this guy that's a definite turn on!
The plot is very interesting, as are the characters; and the book is very well written.
The author states that we'll see some of the team in his next Quinn book, The Aggrieved, in the Spring of 2017, and all of them back in late 2017. I'll be waiting.
Like the first episode of a TV show this book does little more than introduce the characters. The plot itself isn't much and we're left with lingering doubts as to whether the organization that got the characters together is really benevolent or whether it created the situations from which the characters needed to be rescued. I have hopes for book 2 of this series but if it is already out when you read this review, you will want to start here with book 1.
This is a high action thriller that features Ananka and the hopeless Ricky Orbits and three other very interesting characters as the heart of a new "team" that will shortly be interacting with Quinn and his "team", as well as acting on there own. I highly recommend getting in on the ground floor for this new series. Hopefully, the author will not forget about the wonderful MP 5. characters that we loyal readers haven't heard from in quite a while. Will they link-up with Quinn and the Excoms?
Trust is not come by easily. Being cautious about trusting people has kept Ananke alive. The same holds true for the people with whom Ananke unexpectedly finds herself working. All are suddenly castaways from their chosen profession, wrongly accused, and marked for incarceration or death.
The ExComs weaves a tale of 5 people....all workers of a shadowy world of high risks, big payments and zero tolerance. You mess up in this world, you find yourself at best out of work, but more likely dead. These 5 are thrown together by an offer to work for a mysterious organization and clear their names.
Through a bumpy start, the group members learn to trust each other, and somehow become a real team. Their first assignment seems somehow noble, and yet Ananke wonders if the victims they seek to save truly exist or if the whole assignment is some kind of test or trap. Can she trust the organization or their contact? Is there a mole?
The book is action packed and a page-turner. The characters are likable and believable. For readers of the Jonathan Quinn series by this award-winning author, a few of the characters will be enjoyably familiar from small roles in other books. However, The ExComs is a strong, stand-alone story with room to branch into an exciting new series. The end of the book gave me enough answers to feel satisfied, and just enough questions to make me hope for a next book. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and recommend this to readers who like current-day adventure, mystery, intrigue and action.
